Domaine Raquillet
Our vintages
“After several years of harvests affected by climatic variations, the 2017 vintage is doing well.
The vineyard benefited considerably from the very summery spring building a strong lead that it will maintain right up to the harvests. With vines in bloom since mid-June, the earliness of the vintage is confirmed. Summer was marked with a few heat waves and with 2 weeks ahead of schedule, the first grapes were picked on 30 August. The harvests will finish on 12 September.
The white wines are very aromatic on the nose, with a freshness underlined with notes of citrus and white fruits. Minerality and tension perfectly balance this rich and fruity range of flavour on the palate.
The red wines are intense and vibrant, ruby red or garnet in colour. Hints of little red or black fresh fruits combined with silky tannins create a perfectly harmonious whole.”
2017
A lovely surprise, that is how to describe the 2016 vintage, which was a unique vintage due to that year’s weather conditions. After a frost occurring overnight on 26 to 27 April, when the first leaves were already there, followed by a cold and wet spring, the sun finally came out allowing the vineyard to regain its strength. The hot summer will allow the grapes to ripen under excellent conditions.
Harvesting will begin on 20 September and finish 10 days later. The grapes harvested will be perfectly ripe and healthy.
The white wines have a fine tension and body, and have hints of white fruits.
The red wines delight with the intensity of their deep and vibrant colour. This wine is fresh and tense on the palate, accompanied with a beautiful full body.”
2016
“2015 is a very great vintage that will improve over the coming years.
White wines: extremely expressive with lovely notes of summer fruits and with an amazing aromatic purity. These wines are balanced by incredible freshness and richness on the palate.
Red wines: with intense and vibrant colours, and packed with energy, these wines reveal an incomparable complexity of aromas with notes of plump and ripe, red fruits. Rounded and silky tannins reflecting full ripeness provide balance and elegance.
New cuvées: two new cuvées have been added to the Mercurey red range.
- Mercurey Les Carabys - a new plot on the estate, this east-south facing well-exposed vineyard that is over 60 years old is located on clay-limestone soil and produces a deep and powerful wine. It is an excellent cellar wine.
- Mercurey Les Chazeaux - a location in the estate for over 30 years, it is now solicited and offered on our wine list. It is a delicious, voluptuous wine with a rich colour. This young wine will give you infinite pleasure.”
